iZotope announces new version of AI-powered mixing tool, Neutron 5

iZotope has released the latest version of its smart mixing assistant tool, Neutron 5.

The latest version of the AI-powered plugin adds three new modules as well as other upgrades and faster processing times. The new modules — Clipper, Density and Phase — bring the total number to ten, each adding their settings and processing to the signal path, determined by iZotope’s own AI mixing algorithms. Neutron ‘listens’ to the incoming signals and applies processing based on what it feels the sound, group or full mix buss needs based on its genre or style.

Alongside the existing seven modules, which include an EQ, Exciter, Compressor and Sculptor, Clipper lets you maximise your mix’s headroom, and even allows you to target both mid/side and transient and sustain elements separately. Density is an upwards compressor that levels out dynamics and adds more depth and thickness to your sounds and mix, while Phase uses iZotope’s intelligent algorithms to help identify potential phase issues in the mix and attempts to re-align out-of-phase audio.

While all of Neutron’s processing can be used without the help of AI, if you do want some assistance from the algorithm, iZotope says they’ve made their Mix Assistant “faster and smarter”, allowing you to analyse sounds and groups of sounds more efficiently. You can also solo the processed elements of your signal only, so you can hear what exactly Neutron is changing in your mix.

Neutron 5’s introductory price is $174, but it will rise to $249. You can find out more about the plugin on the iZotope website, and watch the video below to see the latest version of Neutron in action.
