Daft Punk's legendary Coachella 2006 performance features in a new mini-documentary about Ed Banger founder Pedro Winter, AKA Busy P.
The performance is widely considered to be one of the best headline sets that Coachella has seen, and the new documentary, Busy P Says Oui, offers some insight into how it came to be via interviews with Winter, who managed Daft Punk for 12 years.
The documentary features never-before-seen footage from the performance and also explores Ed Banger's wider relationship with Coachella, with the likes of Justice and DJ Mehdi having also played at past editions of the event.
Directed by Joey Garfield and shot on location at and near Coachella 2024, the documentary is a project by Coachella promoter Goldenvoice. It also features an interview with Goldenvoice's Vice President of Festival Talent, Stacey Vee, who was heavily involved in getting the French duo to the desert for their performance in April 2006.
"Daft Punk really wanted to focus on their own career, own music," Winter says in the film, "so my job mostly during those 12 years was to say no to everybody, everything."
Vee adds: "We really didn't want a no. We really wanted this one to happen." She also reveals that the duo were offered $350,000 to play at the event. They ultimately agreed to do it, and the rest was history.
Earlier this week, Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter shared a documentary focusing on his 'CHIROPTERA' project.
He also recently co-produced Lil Nas X's new single, 'Light Again!', working on the track with writers and producers Take A Daytrip, Omer Fedi and Jasper Harris.
