Darude celebrates 25 years of ‘Sandstorm’ with Alan Walker at Tomorrowland: Watch

Darude marked 25 years of his smash hit ‘Sandstorm’ at Tomorrowland 2025, joining Norwegian artist Alan Walker to drop the track during his main stage set.

Originally released in Darude’s native Finland in 1999, the track became a worldwide hit after its global re-release in 2000. The song's iconic Eurodance synth riff is one of the most recognisable in dance music history, even prompting an online trend in the 2010s.

Darude has been celebrating the track’s quarter-century run with a series of special promotions. Last year he spoke to DJ Mag for our the Making of a Dance Classic series. “It went viral, before viral was a thing,” he said, reflecting on the early success and enduring legacy of ‘Sandstorm’. Back in May this year, the turn-of-the-millennium classic was played simultaneously across multiple Finnish radio stations.

In August, a public ‘Sandstorm’ “fun-run” will be held in Helsinki, passing through several locations from the track’s famous music video.

Watch Darude join Walker on Tomorrowland’s new main stage, which was urgently constructed after the original burned down on Wednesday. For more festival updates follow our Tomorrowland 2025 live blog.
