Well, this kind news hardly comes as a surprise anymore. In the past 4-years (since the implementation the lockout laws) Sydney has lost countless venues to the forces redevelopment, and Darlinghurst’s beloved GasLight Inn is the latest to fall.
Situated next to the Colombian Hotel – where Crown St meets Oxford St – the GasLight Inn has stood as a popular spot for a drink for many years. The hotel was by Iris Capital in an f-market deal in late 2016, and after copping some renovations it has reopened as – for lack a better term – a pokie den.
One former patron took to Facebook today images the GasLight’s new look, and from what we can see, it’s soul purpose now looks to be reeling in the gamblers. See below:
The venue is currently in stage 1 reopening, with a rotop cocktail bar yet to open. However, the familiar GasLight layout the past has been replaced with wall-to-wall poker machines. With Australians losing a whopping to gambling, this new look for the GasLight really comes as no real shock. Disappointing to say the least.
