A new electronic music album celebrating the life of legendary Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna has been released.
Taking in 21 tracks, 'Senna Driven' spans techno, trance and other sounds, with some cuts taking in inspirational quotes from the late Formula One racer. Among the featured artists are Armin van Buuren, Alok, Vintage Culture, MEDUZA, Nicky Romero and Gui Boratto.
The album has been launched to coincide with the Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix – a competition Senna won in 1991 – and it also marks 30 years since his passing. Senna died in May 1994 after his car crashed into a concert barrier at the San Marino Grand Prix.
'Senna Driven' contributors MEDUZA said in a statement: "Ayrton Senna was not just a driver. Being born in the '80s, we had the chance to see him on the track. We remember the way he took corners differently from everyone else, and similarly, when he got out of the car, he distinguished himself from others by what he said in interviews. Despite being an extraordinary talent, he was the first to defend the weakest.
"So when the Senna family contacted us, proposing that we use one of his interviews to create a track in his honour, we agreed immediately."
'Senna Driven' is available now digitally, with a limited vinyl release set to follow in early 2025. Listen to the compilation below.
Armin van Buuren was recently voted the world's best trance DJ in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll for 2024. Brazilian DJs Alok and Vintage Culture ranked at No.4 and No.9 respectively,
In May, he released the 21st edition of his 'A State Of Trance' mix series.
