London DJ and producer Blackmass Plastics has died.
Bristol techno producer Pete Dawson of Convulsive Therapy announced Ian Miley's death in a 27th June Facebook post. "Sad news... Ian Miley, aka Blackmass Plastics, has passed away after deteriorating health for years", he wrote. "He was an outstanding DJ, producer and supported us from day one". He included the Blackmass Plastics remix of Convulsive Therapy's track 'Cells Within'.
Born Ian Miley, the breaks, electro, hardcore and bass producer came up in London's 2000s squat scene with the likes of Don't's Jerome Hill and Controlled Weirdness. He also worked under the aliases DJ Typhoid and GRIMJAW and was a member of The Leyton Breakers, with Controlled Weirdness, and True Diabolists, with Judge Mental.
Blackmass Plastics' most recent solo record was the 2023 EP 'Biotron' for Rave Radio Records, and he'd previously released on Rag & Bone, Mutant Bass, SMB Records, Uglyfunk and more. In 2020, Blackmass Plastics' 'Holy Handgrenade' featured in Helena Hauff's mix for Tresor's 'Kern' series.
