DJ Mag to host weekly BBC Radio 1 Dance residency for January: Listen

DJ Mag has teamed up with BBC Radio 1 Dance to host a month-long residency, presenting a selection of our Ones To Watch for 2022 with weekly guest mixes.

Broadcasting every Saturday night through January, each mix in the residency will spotlight one of DJ Mag’s five DJs to watch for the coming year, each of whom are profiled in the latest edition of our UK print mag. You can check out the full running order for the series below. All mixes will be available after broadcast via the BBC Sounds App or the BBC website.

The DJs selected for DJ Mag's Radio 1 residency are SJAYY, NikNak, Kasango, Black Cadmium and Mixtress. From Jersey club to Afrotech, hardcore, house and beyond, these are the acts pushing tomorrow’s sounds today. The first instalment of the residency aired on 1st January, with a thrilling mix from emerging Jersey club producer, SJAYY. Listen back to his mix here.

The hyper-kinetic pulse of Jersey club is taking over the world, and one of its most prolific young talents is New Jersey polymath, SJAYY, whose determination to introduce new sonic elements and maximise his own creativity knows no bounds.

NikNak is a turntablist, producer and presenter based in Leeds, who is just at home mixing funk and hip-hop as she is dubstep and d&b, putting together experimental ambient works or interviewing icons; she’s on the rise and doing it her way. Her mix will air from 3 - 4 AM on 8th January.

South Africa’s Kasango has landed smash hits in his home country’s charts, as well as in underground parties around the world  in 2021. With his star on the rise, Kasango is on a mission to connect people through house music. Two of his tracks featured in DJ Mag’s Top Tracks of 2021. His mix will air from 2 - 3 AM on 15th January.

Inspired by the sprawling history of Black music, Dutch duo Black Cadmium are ready to take 2022 by storm with their fresh take on the club-ready sounds of house, electro and breaks. Check out DJ Mag’s premiere of their track, ‘I Told Ya’, here. Their mix will air from 2 - 3 AM on 22nd January.

Mixtress translates her deep knowledge of high-speed dance music into adrenaline-pumping dancefloor moments. With multiple London radio residencies and regular appearances at clubs and on live streams like Keep Hush, she’s also striving to combat inequalities in the industry.
