is prone to break records with whatever he releases. Whether its a single or an album, they usually go on to break streaming and Billboard records. Unfortunately, the rapper set a new record today but it might not be something he should be entirely happy about.
Drake's sales for Scorpion on the week ending on July 12th is the lowest sum units moved for a top-selling album ever, reports. The rapper moved 29K units this week with the project and while it still retains the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, it also marks the smallest sum for the week's top selling album in Nielsen Music's 27 year history.
Considering Scorpion's physical copy didn't go on sale until a day after the charting period, the entirety his sales are based f digital downloads and streams. However, there are a few CD's that account to the total sales since a few retailers began selling it a few days before it's actual release date. Unfortunately, this also had an impact on his pockets as it was reported that he lost out on $500K by delaying the release the physical copies.
Regardless this, Drake is still winning out here. He became the first artist in the history Apple Music to garner 10 billion streams on a project and he's still expected to hold the on the Billboard 200 this coming week.
