Since last September, Hardwell has been taking a break from shows and touring. “Being Hardwell 24/7 leaves too little energy, love, creativity and attention for my life as a normal person to do so,” he wrote at the time. “This is why I have decided to clear my schedule indefinitely to be completely liberated from targets, interviews, deadlines, release dates, etc.”
Festival lineups across the world have felt a little different without his bold name at the top (though it’s given room to some interesting new headliner combinations, to be certain). But fans at Breda Live in the Netherlands this weekend were given a rare treat as Afrojack brought Hardwell out during his set as a special guest.
While it would be great to believe that this is the sign a comeback for Hardwell, the fact that the festival was already in the Netherlands — and thus he didn’t have to really travel for it — could mean it was just an appearance out convenience.
