Homestead-Miami Speedway Petitions For Longer Hours In Attempt To Court Ultra Miami

Minutes after the Miami City Council motioned to put Ultra Miami back on the next city commission meeting agenda, as well as directing city manager Emilio Gonzalez to renew talks with Ultra, Homestead-Miami Speedway called a special call meeting to authorize longer hours.

The venue called the meeting in Homestead in an attempt to petition for longer operating hours, extending its current 11pm curfew to 2am.

“As you are aware, Homestead-Miami Speedway is optimizing the new racing schedule to include additional events at the HMS Facility with one the key targets to such optimization being annual festivals,” wrote HMS President Matthew Becherer to Homestead City Manager George Gretsas.

Within the petition, Al Garcia HMS lays out prospective dates for Ultra 2020: Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8 from 2PM to 2AM each day. It also states a range for attendance; given that it is a new operational venue, “expected attendance] could be anywhere from 30,000 to 70,000 with a cap 100,000.” That’s per day.

The motion was reportedly passed by the City Council, but we don’t have the exact vote count at this time. This article will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

Ultra Miami has still not announced where it will end up in 2020. In a statement sent out earlier this month, the festival said, “We are now finalizing a new South Florida location that will serve as an incredible and permanent home for Ultra Music Festival.” Nothing is over until it’s down in ink.

We’ll see where Ultra ends up in 2020 soon enough.
