J. Sirus – Back in Yonkers

Meet J. Sirus, the 24-year-old Sacramento-born rapper who is being deemed the missing link between the West Coast style hip hop and today’s new wave artists. The City Trees has recently produced heavy-hitters like Mozzy; however, as a true student the game, Sirus forges his own sound by combining influences from his North Highlands roots with his own original content, displaying a different aspect the Sacramento rap scene. Acting as the bridge between two established styles, Sirus’ uncharted approach radiates with charismatic cadences and honest lyricism, attributes that are tangible within his tracks, such as 2016’s “Mama Said” and 2017’s “Meet Us At The Village”.

A product Galt, California, J. Sirus continues to pull from humbling experiences, some which he touches on in his newest visual release, “Back In Yonkers”. Paired with his lowest moments, “Back In Yonkers” also features Sirus reminiscing on his time on tour and facing the realities his fight to the top, with his eventual rite passage being foreshadowed.

This praise does not come without merit. As part the Yours Truly Tour 2017, Sirus spent a chunk the year accompanying Warner Bros. artist, Phora, as the tour’s only opener. The national tour spanned over 36 cities, with nearly every show being sold out. Creating a new fan base with only 15 minutes per show seems like a tall task for most, but that is where Sirus separates himself from most. In a matter six weeks, Sirus’ following grew by the thousands. The mere ratio likes to followers demonstrates J. Sirus’ ability to relate and resonate with listeners long after the show is done.
