Japanese label TREKKIE TRAX has released ‘On Tweeq’, a new single from Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990, aka Dance System.
The full EP, released on Friday 8th November, also comes with six remixes. It includes reworks from TREKKIE TRAX founders Seimei, Carpainter and andrew, as well as label associates K8, Oyubi and Guchon.
The track is a fast-paced cut led by a warping bassline and shuffling rhythm. L-Vis 1990 – real name James James Connolly – announced the release via a post on Instagram, writing: “My new 150bpm club construction ‘On Tweeq’ just dropped on Tokyo based label TREKKIE TRAX. Backed with a bunch of tweeqing remixes from the TT crew!”
L-Vis 1990 will headline Trekkie Trax’s 12th anniversary party at Tokyo’s clubasia on Saturday 16th November.
At the beginning of the year, he announced a “total reset” of his musical approach and the return of his L-Vis 1990 moniker, having predominantly been performing under his more house and techno oriented Dance System alias.
“When I brought back Dance System in 2019 the landscape of dance music was a very different place. Fun was kinda lost in a sea of serious techno and tech house,” he wrote. “Post Covid we all came out and [brought] the ‘Party Vibes’, playing tracks to bring joy to an audience that had been locked down for two years. The ‘Party’ train didn’t stop though and it’s become the norm and I’m tired of it.
“I’m not interested in just playing ‘The bangers’ for anyone now. It brings me no joy. It’s just a dopamine hit that leaves my soul wanting more,” he continued. “I want to create experiences that will stick with the audience for their whole life.”
