LCD Soundsystem clarify new album rumours, officially release ‘X-Ray Eyes’: Listen

LCD Soundsystem have officially released their new single, ‘X Ray Eyes’, a track that they have now confirmed to be the first of an as-yet-unfinished fifth album, their first since 2017's 'American Dream'.

The track was first revealed as a worldwide exclusive on NTS Radio on 22nd October. Soon after, mistaken reports began to circulate in numerous publications, including DJ Mag, that the James Murphy-fronted band had a new album coming next year to correspond with their set at June's Primavera Sound in Barcelona. The band has now issued a statement on their official Instagram to correct that speculation.

Though Murphy has confirmed that this is the first single from a forthcoming album, he has insisted that said album has not been completed yet. "Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it,” the statement read.

Murphy went on to add that more copies of the vinyl single would be pressed eventually. “Don’t freak out if you don’t get one because there will be a more readily available commercial release of the same record when we can get it together.”

The same Instagram post also confirmed that the only official way to buy a physical copy of the single would be to buy a silkscreen 12” at their upcoming NYC and LA shows or by purchasing one of the very limited run held by DFA.

He concluded: "But, no, there’s no finished LP yet. but when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion. so that’s the news. anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.
