It’s been a huge day for Lil Nas X. His song “Old Town Road” is now the longest running Hot 100 #1 hip-hop single all time (or is it a country song? We still don’t know), and the song is up for diamond certification, AND, on top all that, he’s also just come out as gay.
Having already become a major symbol for the hip hop and black community as a trendsetter at only 20 years old, he’s now an icon for the LGBTQ community, as well.
As the NY Times points out, “Old Town Road” has become more than a hit, transcending to become a cultural phenomenon. As its chart and worldwide domination continues, along with the rest his newly released 7 EP, Lil Nas X could be a massive force for change.
