Manuel Fogliata, the Italian DJ and producer known as Nuel, has died aged 45.
"I’m saddened to announce that my friend Manuel Fogliata fka Nuel has died," wrote Donato Dozzy on Instagram last Friday (30th May). "Companion of many sonic adventures, he left this crazy world in a blink of an eye. My deep condolences to his family and friends."
The cause of death was not revealed.
Born in the coastal city of Rimini, Fogliata had been a fixture on the Italian experimental techno scene since the mid-2000s, running the Aquaplano label and putting out releases on imprints such as Further Records, Northern Electronics and Persona Records.
As EDM Identity points out, Fogliata retired his Nuel moniker in December 2024, writing that he'd “prefer to simplify" and “in the end it’s just about making music”. He later shared that he had been experiencing tinnitus for five years, which had disrupted his production work.
