Moog announces new flagship analogue poly synth, Muse

Moog has announced a new flagship eight-voice polyphonic analogue synth called the Muse.

The new hardware unit is a full-size 61-key synth, blending fully analogue features with new, future-facing additions. First teased as part of the Super Bowl halftime show back in February, the Muse has been a long time coming, five years in development at Moog HQ in Asheville, North Carolina. Moog Music says that the unit is designed for both studio and performance use, with a feature set that compliments both environments.

The spec sheet is impressive, with eight fully analogue voices in total, each with two VCO options, a modulation VCO per voice, dual VCFs and a stereo VCA. The oscillators are taken from the famous Minimoog Voyager synth, and it also introduces a saturating mixer for extra harmonics, Moog ladder filters, and the VCAs are “inspired by Moog Modular circuits”. Patches are also bi-timbral meaning that two sounds can be stacked or split across the keyboard.

Things move into the future with the 64-step sequencer with sequence chaining and parameter recording featuring an arpeggiator and chord memory function, letting you create more established ideas, riffs and loops directly from the unit.

The Moog Muse retails for $3,499 and is available now. You can watch the video below to hear it in action or visit the Moog website for the full spec lowdown.
