A new independent radio station is opening at a sauna in Stockholm.
Located close to the city’s Lake Mälaren at the popular sauna and event space Eden Bastun, the new radio station, Sauna Radio, is the first venture of its kind in Stockholm. It aims to become a community-driven cultural hub, and programming will be broadcast from a newly-built outdoor DJ booth, close to the sauna’s bar and wild swimming areas.
Stockholm-based French DJ and producer Abstraxion is heading up the project. A free event to mark its launch will get underway tomorrow (Saturday, 5th July) from midday, with further free events set to follow each Saturday going forward.
Sauna Radio’s programming will “champion local talent and homegrown artists who diversify Sweden’s emerging scene, as well as bringing in some international guests”, a press release said.
“I fell in love with Eden Bastun’s unique setting, and saw that we could do something special here – gatherings that feel open, intimate and breathe new life into Stockholm,” Abstraxion, real name Harold Boué, added. “Sauna Radio will be rooted in local Swedish culture and nature.
“It’ll also be musically expansive with a global spirit. NTS, The Lot and Kiosk Radio are naturally big inspirations. Myself and the dedicated team behind this really want to see this grow into a long-term platform for shared listening, artistic dialogue, and memories in sound.”
Tomorrow evening’s launch event will feature guest sets from international DJ Cashu, as well as local Swedish acts such as Kablam and Aniara Recordings label affiliate Mattias El Mansouri. Find more information here.
