Alien D will release a new EP via New York’s Sorry Records this week. Listen to the opening track, ‘Giggle’, below.
The DJ and producer, who is also co-founder of fellow NYC label Sweat Equity, serves up four original tracks that drift from breezy breakbeat into headrush techno and back again, all tied together with weird and wriggly arpeggios and squelching acid basslines.
Titled ‘To My Friends Nick & Tony’ in tribute of Sorry Records founders Nick Boyd and Tony G, the EP is capped off with two remixes courtesy of Kindergarten Records affiliate Drummy and longstanding west coast breakbeat act, Bassbin Twins.
On the A-Side, the featherlight breaks, chuckling samples and swirling melodies of ‘Giggle’ are pitted against the rumbling, buzzsaw rhythms of ‘Basic Acid’. The B-Side’s pairing is similar, with ‘Squiggle’ balancing its gentle acid lead and soft focus synths against sub-shaking bass, while ‘Tripper’ races to a mangled music box techno peak.
‘To My Friends Nick & Tony’ will be released this Friday 26th August. Pre-order it here.
