Ell Murphy returns to Berlin-London label Greco Roman this week with a new single, ‘Need It’. Have an exclusive first listen to the track below.
The South London-based DJ, producer and vocalist rounds out an abundant year of releases – which included the four-track ‘Pressure’ EP on her Jucey Tunes imprint and the balmy summer single, ‘Doin’ Me Right’ – with a new vocal house heater inspired by the power of connection.
Like many of Ell’s recent projects, ‘Need It’ fizzes with the insatiable, throwback energy of ’90s house music, compounding crunchy piano bass-grooves and bumping percussion with her signature soulful vocal runs to transport you back to the peak of summer.
“This song came together really quickly in the studio with [long term collaborator] Medlar, as I had a strong idea of creating a minimal yet powerful song with distorted piano and a big vocal; paying homage to that Todd Terry era of ’90s house,” Ell shared on the single.
“The song captures that raw, urgent energy of needing someone in your life — not in a romantic sense, but as someone whose presence feels vital and irreplaceable.”
To celebrate the release, Ell Murphy will be joined by Medlar for an all-vinyl launch party at Jumbi, Peckham on Friday 29th November. Free (!) tickets are available here.
‘Need It’ is out 22nd November via Greco Roman. Pre-save the single here, and have an exclusive first listen below.
