EVA808 will release her debut album, ‘Sultry Venom’, this Friday 18th December.
Released on USA heavyweight bass label Innamind Recordings, the 19-track LP follows the success of the Icelandic producer’s singles ‘Prrr’ and ‘Exchange’ - already accumulating a steady stream of endorsement from the likes of Commodo and Hudson Mohawke.
Indulging in driving beats and isolated bass while occasionally dipping into more fragmented, dub-laced obscurity, ‘Sultry Venom’ is rich in texture and genre-mutation, all demonstrating the wide spectrum of the Icelandic producer aka Eva Jóhannsdóttir’s skills. From the “gun finger inducing” ‘I Saw The Devil’ to the more understated ‘Purple Soul’, the record flirts with dubstep, grime, trap, and the spaces in between.
‘Drip Drip (Reflective Nikes)’ is a resonating juxtaposition of watery, ambient samples with pulses of heavy bass. Add sharp snatches of drums and looping lo-fi undertones, it’s all but enough to lure you into a dub-induced hypnosis.
