Premiere: George Earnest ‘Organ Of Evening Calm’

Dublin-based label Pear is one of our favourite emerging imprints at the minute. Having fallen head over heels for their early releases by the likes of Big Miz and R Kitt last year, at the start of May we premiered a fiery house cut from co-founder Fio Fa’s ‘Sunday Pledge’ EP and it’s barely left our heads since.

Now, the All City affiliated label is back with its third release of the year in the form of ‘A Dreaming Island’ by Berlin-based, Kilkenny native George Earnest. The six-track EP, as he explains, is “an elegy to hedonistic isle living, drifting in and out through six balearia-tinged varieties all referencing various styles of early to late ‘90s house music & newage tropes.”

It’s an apt description, given the EP’s tasteful swerves from the lush, Harold Budd-reminiscent ambience of ‘A Storm’ and ‘A Sea’ to the sun-kissed, atmospheric house of ‘Dreaming Island’ and ‘Awake My Friend’.

‘Organ Of Evening Calm’ – premiering below – is a mesmerising and warm cut that beautifully evokes scenes of beach fires, cheap cans and bluetooth speakers with just enough battery left. It’s a nostalgic, comforting sound that never feels more appropriate than at this time of year, panpipes and all.

‘A Dreaming Island’ is out on the 6th July. Pre-order it here.
