Ghoulish will release a new single, ‘Arc Flash’, via Left, Right & Centre later this week. Have an exclusive first listen below.
The Manchester-based DJ and producer plunges into deeper, darker percussive zones on his first music since December’s debut EP, ‘Weekends Good Will’. Landing via Left, Right & Centre, ‘Arc Flash’ is a real dancefloor tenderiser, conjuring an almost tangible sense of tension through its mesh of deconstructed vocals, scattershot snare hits, and back-breaking bassweight.
Redolent of the terse rhythmic style of Ploy or Pearson Sound, the release feels like a manifestation of Ghoulish’s growing taste for trippy sonics, which has seen him graduate from early forays in dubstep into variations of UKG, bass, and breakbeat. Capped with a punishing club flip from LRC label head Korzi, ‘Arc Flash’ feels like the work of a producer on the cusp of a breakthrough, merging his past and present sounds into something deep, bubbling and genuinely emphatic.
The release follows a string of excellent releases on Manchester’s Left, Right & Centre label, including Small Crab’s ‘Glucoside / AYY + Tokyo’ EP, the three-track ‘B Squared’ from Pluralist, and Everett’s ‘Orange Slices’ EP.
Ghoulish recently rounded up a four-date residency at Manchester’s YES club, where he went b2b with long-time mentor, Skream. Catch the DJ performing at Sneaky Pete’s next month alongside George IV and Refracta – tickets are still available here.
‘Arc Flash’ is out digitally on 26th April. Pre-save the track here, and have an exclusive first listen below.
