[kevinindafield] will release their debut single, ‘Golta Shino’, later this week via Future Bounce. Have an exclusive first listen below.
Described as an “energetic, dark and twisted ode to [their] childhood”, the track is the first taste of the Sudanese DJ, producer and sound engineer’s forthcoming debut EP of the same name. ‘Golta Shino’ – which translates to ‘Say What’ in their native dialect – sees [kevinindafield] needle heavy jungle breaks, footwork, grime, dubstep, bass music, and more into a frenzied club tool with bags of personality.
Amidst the commotion, samples from retro video games and Sudanese TV shows throughout bring a feeling of twisted nostalgia to the table, whilst introducing the complex themes of identity, memory and belonging that bubble across the extended player.
“I created [‘Golta Shino’] in the midst of mourning the loss of my family home, which got burnt down due to the ongoing war in Sudan, along with all of our family and childhood memorabilia,” [kevinindafield], who is now based in Cape Town, shared. “And within that, dealing with my family having to flee their home in Sudan and being displaced all over the world.”
“Making music at the time was very healing and helped me grieve that loss,” they continued, “so it felt very therapeutic to make a project that is dedicated to the complicated emotions that came with it and holding on to my voice, identity and where I come from.”
When they aren’t cooking up colourful beats, [kevinindafield] is a resident on Accra’s Oroko Radio. The community-focused online radio station was launched in the Ghanaian capital in 2022 by Kikelomo, Nico Adomako, Naëmi Ada and Truseye with the aim of amplifying work from Ghanaian artists, as well as other Afrodiasporic acts.
‘Golta Shino’ follows a string of taste-making releases on Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce imprint, including the exceptional new EP from Kiss Nuka, ‘Witches Brew’, and Bikôkô’s intimate recent single, ‘Jealousy’.
‘Golta Shino’ is out 19th July via Future Bounce. Pre-order the single here, and have an exclusive first listen below.
