Purient will debut on Steel City Dance Discs next month with a new EP, ‘Mwah’. Have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
On the long-awaited successor to 2022’s ‘WBWU’ EP, the Naarm-based producer and vocalist (real name Kate Durman) transforms melancholy into daring dancefloor fuel, melding skittering club beats with emotive synths and pop-infused vocals. Landing 21st November on the coveted Steel City Dance Discs imprint, ‘Mwah’ represents a blurring of the lines between the “ethereal and the brash” elements of her sound, resulting in four eccentric and addictive club cuts.
Our pick of the bunch is the title track, out tomorrow (24th October) ahead of the full EP in November. Here, Durman – who also performs in Aussie dream pop band, Acopia – pairs shimmering astral textures with mechanical basslines for a slice of dark, ephemeral electronica.
‘Mwah’ is out 21st November via Steel City Dance Discs. Pre-save the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
