Premiere: Shanique Marie ‘Grow’

Jamaican vocalist Shanique Marie will release her debut album, ‘Gigi’s House’, next month.

A member of Kingston’s Equiknoxx collective, Marie has established herself as a standout talent in the past couple of years thanks to a string of striking solo cuts, weaving dancehall, reggae and R&B with off-kilter flavours, and versatile collaborations with the likes of Finn, Flava D, Sharda and Fox & Swing Ting.

She fully hits her stride across the eight tracks on ‘Gigi’s House’, balancing tender vocals with lush electronic production and crisp beats. In his review of the album for the latest edition of DJ Mag, out now, Joe Roberts describes the album’s “blending of classic and modern influences with a message of self-empowerment that Marie embodies”.

Featuring collaborations and production contributions from labelmates Exile Di Brave, Gavsborg and Swing Ting, among others, the album is the sound of an artist levelling up. Describing the release, the artist simply said: "I call this one home".

You can hear the ‘Grow’, a luxurious track built on a minimal dembow beat and lifted by Marie’s soulful spoken-word vocals, below.

‘Gigi’s House’ is set to be released on 16th June. Pre-order it here
