Kuala Lumpur’s Shelhiel has invited three artists from across East and South East Asia to remix his 2021 single, ‘Star 星’.
Set for release on London’s Eastern Margins label, which has been championing forward thinking music from East and South East Asia since 2017, the triptych of remixes finds Shelhiel’s experimental, two-step pop anthem reshaped into new forms, from luminous house to wild hyperpop.
Stretching the numerous influences that informed Shelhiel’s 2020 EP, ‘SUPERSTROBE', these remixes from Taipei/Madrid-based PUTOCHINOMARICÓN, Seoul’s KONA and Kuala Lumpur’s rEmPiT g0dDe$$ vary in scope but retain the maximal pop energy of the original track.
Below, you can hear rEmPiT g0dDe$$’ hyperactive, club-ready take on the track, which follows her ravey industrial contribution to Eastern Margin’s Redline Legends compilation last year. Pre-save the ‘Star 星’ remixes here, ahead of their full release later this month.
