In case you weren’t aware, Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) is one of our favourite UK labels here at DJ Mag HQ. Since launching in 2012, the label has time and again knocked it out of the park with its releases, effortlessly fusing incendiary electro, industrial techno and UK bass styles with the city’s influential Bleep sound.
Following releases from the likes of LA-4A AKA Ambivalent and local young gun 96 Back, Osaka-based producer Yuri Urano is next up on the imprint and, with the four tracks that make her ‘Autline’, she proves herself to be a true force to be reckoned with.
Since debuting in 2015 with her ‘Loop Bell’ EP, Urano has been sending sparks through the spine of Japan’s underground techno scene. It’s clear to hear why on ‘Autline’, an EP that finds the artist swerving seamlessly from minimal UK-bass forms into volatile electro and techno.
‘Pec’ – premiering below – falls into the latter category. The EP’s most ferocious track, it is a cut of raucous industrial techno with a certain minimal electro flair that makes it the perfect addition to the CPU roster.
