REPORT: Beatport Is Deleting A Huge Amount Of Tracks From Its Site Forever

Beatport is cleaning house. The popular online store for electronic/dance music just announced a “yearly storage cleanup procedure” that will trim the back catalog, potentially pretty drastically.

According to DJ TechTools, Beatport plans to remove all the songs that have never been purchased. This cleanup process will take place every year and affect the previous calendar year. For the first swipe, Beatport will delete all  unsold tracks released prior to January 1, 2019.

Note: The cleanup is only happening on Beatport, so tracks will *not* be removed from other platforms. However, TraxSource has a similar cleanup every 2 years.

Considering Beatport is the premier place to purchase electronic/dance music, it’s disappointing that the catalog available to consumers and DJ/producers will be lessened. However, there’s a never-ending stream music Beatport has to maintain and it can definitely be cumbersome.

Do you think this is a good idea or not?
