A new film, directed by Wu-Tang Clan member and East Coast rap icon RZA, will debut at New York's Tribeca Film Festival.
One Spoon of Chocolate is set in a Southern US town, and follows the story of a former military convict who leaves the city for a small community, only to find romance and drama when they get there.
Filmed on location in Atlanta, Georgia, the movie features a cast that will be familiar to fans of the filmmaker, the hip hop collective he's best known for, and Hollywood cinema. Names include 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' and 'Dope' star Shameik Moore, Johnell Young of Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and RJ Cyler from 'The Harder They Fall.
"It’s an honour to be premiering my new film, One Spoon of Chocolate, at the Tribeca Film Festival,” said RZA. “As a native New Yorker, I’ve attended Tribeca and enjoyed some great cinematic and cultural moments. It’s a pure delight that I get to share my fourth and boldest film with their amazing audience.”
“I’ve had the honor of telling a lot of powerful stories over the years, but 'One Spoon of Chocolate' hits different,” added producer Paul Hall, whose credits include iconic 1990s basketball comedy, 'White Men Can't Jump'. “RZA brought something fearless to the table, and it was a thrill helping bring that vision to life. Premiering at Tribeca, the heart of New York, feels like the perfect stage for this moment. This one’s special."
One Spoon of Chocolate will premiere on 8th June at 8:00 PM, at the OKX Theater at BMCC TPAC, New York, formerly Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Public screenings will continue on 9th June, 9:15 PM at VEC-06, then 12th June, 8:00 PM at VEC-07.
Earlier this year, Wu-Tang Clan unveiled plans for their last ever tour, Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber. The group had a neighbourhood named after them in Staten Island, New York City, in 2019. Last July, RZA announced he was working on a classical ballet with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
