Selections: Azzecca

It’s been over a month since Azzecca dropped her long-anticipated single, ‘Who’s That Girl?’, and we’re still not over it. The intergalactic house heater – released on Dutch imprint DGTL – brought a more minimal twist to the Chicagoan’s signature sound, interfusing ethereal vocals with deep, stuttering bass lines and trails of psytrance to evoke the purest form of club euphoria. Unsurprisingly, the single has been a focal point of Azzecca’s recent DJ sets, which have also stepped up a gear in 2024.

She kicked things off back in January with a huge Gorgon City b2b at San Francisco’s Public Works, before making pitstops at Detroit’s Movement festival, It’ll Do in Dallas, Arc Music Festival and tons more over the summer. Most recently, Azzecca played a coveted DJ set during Watergate’s farewell party series – one of the “last few dances before I lock myself in the studio until spring” – alongside Kölsch, Jamiie, Jonathan Kaspar and Alyssa & Gia.

Azzecca also launched her new party brand Cosimea in May, expanding on the ethos of her previous much-loved, female-safety-focused global event series Dirty Disco, by providing safe, inclusive spaces for people to enjoy cosmic club sounds from underground and established talent. Guests at the inaugural party at Chicago’s Smartbar included local hero Shaun J. Wright, Brisbane’s X CLUB and recent DJ Mag cover star, salute. To round out a huge year, Azzecca spotlights some of her current favourite tracks and remixes, from bass heavy rollers and stylish hip-house jams, to tripped-out trance, prog and beyond.
