“My sound is only ever growing day by day,” said LUXE in her 2022 interview with DJ Mag. “I want to continue exploring the hybridity of club music and how my sound can develop within that.”
In the nearly-three years since that conversation, the Brighton-born, London-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, vocalist and DJ has repeatedly proven her own point, building her reputation on the underground club circuit while simultaneously developing her practice as a live artist whose performances merge elements of classical music with electronic techniques. Releases like 2023’s ‘Mineral & Moss’ EP on Planet Euphorique, her ‘Enchanted’ collab with Angel D’Lite on Goddezz, and appearances on compilations from fabric and Wisdom Teeth have showcased a flair for dance music composed with a painterly touch and a dazzling hue, drawing from progressive house, breaks, dub, techno and more to build her own soundworld.
In 2024, she furthered this with the release of ‘Tides’, a trilogy of two-track singles for METHOD 808 comprising ‘rites’, ‘solstice’ and ‘aether’, each of which introduced more live instrumentation into her music than ever before. Incorporating harp, flute, strings and vocals, while maintaining the nimble club beats that occupied her previous work, this music coincided with her debut live show, REVERIE, which she premiered in London during the summer accompanied by an ensemble of classical musicians. She later took the show on tour for a string of dates supporting Jon Hopkins, as well as the Draaimolen festival in Tilburg.
LUXE will be expanding on all of these elements into 2025, with a run of live shows coming up in March and April including at The ICA in London, The White Hotel in Manchester, Strange Brew in Bristol and La Casa Encendida in Madrid. More details and tickets for those shows can be found here. There’ll also be plenty of DJ sets and hybrid club shows in the coming months, as well as new neo-classical-meets-club-music releases and some very exciting collaborations.
In the meantime though, LUXE has picked some recent favourite releases for our Selections series, spotlighting percussive club tools, timeless house and techno, dreamy dub sonics and more. Dive in below.
