There are few artists spinning as many plates as London luminary NAINA. From helming Hooversound Recordings alongside SHERELLE and co-hosting the label’s hit show on NTS, to spotlighting underground club sounds with Apple Music and tearing up dancefloors in Canada, Croatia, Ibiza and beyond. Now, the multi-hyphenate is entering her “production era” with the release of her debut EP, ‘Survival’, a four-track celebration of personal resilience, the unifying power of the dancefloor, and NAINA’s fearless, all-tabs-open approach to club music.
Described as the sonic embodiment of “tears in the club moments”, the project’s lead single, ‘I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)’, loops together strands of techno, bass, breaks, and euphoric electro into a misty-eyed rave heater. “I’ve been messing around with production as a hobby for a long time, and it’s always felt so cathartic, a form of release in a way—and this tune is when I started taking it seriously,” NAINA shared around the track’s release in November. “Combine that with close pals gassing me up, and my brain being less broken, I’m now fully ready for the world to hear what I can do.”
The rave magic continues to flow on second single, ‘Body Movements’, landing next Friday (30th January). Coined as “one for the hunz”, the cut cranks up the BPM for a slinky techno workout, centred around bright, hooky arps, breakneck beats and NAINA’s hypnotic incantations of “I wanna feel”. It’s completely addictive, and testament to a project and an artist that doesn’t do anything by halves.
Ahead of the full release of ‘Survival’ on 7th February, NAINA spotlights a spectrum of underground sounds, from emotional bass bangers and footwork anthems, to charged-up jungle, breaks, and beyond. Dive in below.
