Just under four months since it was first debuted at Ultra Music Festival in March, The Chainsmokers and Illenium have released their collaboration, “Takeaway” with Lennon Stella.
Toward the end their set, Illenium joined the duo on stage with drummer Matt McGuire to perform their new collaboration for the first time. It was a huge moment in the set, with all phones immediately popping up to record the momentous occasion.
“Takeaway” takes the sounds both artists pretty much 50/50, with The Chainsmokers’ pop writing and melody and Illenium’s future bass and shimmeringly smooth synths. Adding Stella is the icing on the cake, giving it some feminine energy and a contrasting voice to the more masculine vocals throughout the rest the song.
I wouldn’t say it’s the best work from either artist, to be honest, but it’s a solid track that will definitely start some singalongs in the crowd. “Takeaway” is the fifth single from The Chainsmokers’ forthcoming album World War Joy, check it out below.
