The PlayStation 5 Is Coming Soon

Right f the bat: yes, we’re an EDM blog posting about a video game console. Suck it up, we’re excited. Now that’s out the way…

Earlier today, Jim Ryan, President & CEO Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared a public blog post announcing a general release date for the next-generation gaming console PS5, aiming for the holiday season 2020.

Rumors the PS5 have been swirling as it’s been nearly six years since the release the previous generation PS4; each generation has come approximately 6-7 years after its predecessor, so the timing was right for fans to turn the hype up and start speculating on the new release.

The announcement today focused on the new controller for the PS5, and two specific aspects therein: haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers.

Haptic Feedback

“With haptics, you truly feel a broader range feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety textures when running through fields grass or plodding through mud.”

Adaptive Triggers

“Developers can program the resistance the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an f-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions.”

There’s still plenty to learn about the new console in the year to come before its release, and we expect much more information to be revealed at next year’s E3 conference.
