Splice has launched a new mobile app focused on making music quickly by channelling its millions-strong catalogue of sounds and loops.
Splice Mobile — now available on both Android and iOS — takes the tech company’s Create a Stack concept, made popular on the desktop site, to mobile. This means users can quickly create ideas by cycling through compatible loops that are pulled from across Splice’s catalogue using AI.
Each Stack starts by the user selecting a genre, from RnB and hip-hop to EDM, lo-fi, house and more. Once the genre is selected, Splice Mobile will create a layer of loops that work together harmonically and in a similar BPM range, though the app will also stretch and pitch shift where appropriate. Once a loop is rolling the user can swap out individual parts like bass, vocal, perc, drums, etc — up to eight layers can be stacked at a time. When the user swipes right to add a sound to a Stack, Splice Mobile uses AI to search the whole catalogue for another compatible sound to keep the idea moving. Users can also mix loops with volume faders.
Once happy with an idea, the user can export it to Ableton Live and Studio One in its current form, access the packs with the original samples on, export the individual stems, or export the stereo mix as a WAV. Every time a Stack is saved on the mobile app, it will automatically sync to the user’s desktop.
Splice Mobile is a free app and is available now via the OS app store. Watch the video below or visit the Splice website for more info.
Splice launched a similar app called CoSo back in 2022.
