Joe Biden has come out as the only leading 2020 Democrat to oppose federal legalization marijuana.
Before fully legalizing, the former Vice President is calling for more research to determine whether marijuana is “a gateway drug” or not.
Back in 2010, Biden firmly stated, “I still believe it’s a gateway drug,” and “legalization is a mistake.”
When recently asked if his stance had changed since then, Biden said, “No, it hasn’t changed. The truth the matter is, there has not been nearly enough evidence acquired as to whether or not it’s a gateway drug.”
He does, however, support decriminalization the drug. Biden said those jailed for marijuana should be released and criminal records expunged related charges.
Changing marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III would make it easier to research, which Biden also supports.
