Airbnb Bans House Parties In California After 5 Killed At Halloween Bash

Airbnb is cracking down on house parties following a violent crime in which five people were shot and killed during a Halloween-themed event at a rental house in California.

According to reports, approximately 100 people were in attendance at the party when gunfire broke out on Thursday night. Three people died on the scene and two others died later in the hospital.

Moving forward, Airbnb will no longer allow “house parties” to happen on any its millions properties. No exceptions. Those who violate these elevated guest policies will be removed from the site.

CEO Brian Chesky said the company will work on “redoubling our efforts to combat unauthorized parties and get rid abusive host and guest conduct, including conduct that leads to the terrible events we saw in Orinda.”

“We must do better, and we will,” he said. “This is unacceptable.”
