Facebook To Start Hiding “Likes” Today

Facebook is changing the way it does likes…

According to a new report, Facebook will begin hiding likes as today, testing out a new feature that puts less pressure on like count. Under the new test, views, likes and reactions will only be visible to the user who posted.

A spokesperson from Facebook revealed to CNET: “We are running a limited test where like, reaction and video view counts are made private across Facebook.”

Upon testing, Facebook intends to “gather feedback to understand whether this change will improve people’s experiences.”

Facebook-owned social app Instagram began the same test this year in an effort to “remove the pressure how many likes a post will receive.” Facebook was “excited by the early test results,” which now the platform will explore even further.

Instagram counts were hidden in seven countries: Australia, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy and Japan. Meanwhile, this new Facebook test begins in Australia alone.
