Premiere: Nick León ‘Grillo’

Next up on Mexico City collective NAAFI’s label is Miami producer NIck León with the seven-track ‘Aguacero’ EP.

Set for release on this Friday 5th June (when Bandcamp will be waiving its revenue fee again for 24 hours), the EP is described as “is a percussive reflection on a city in flux”. Utilising organic percussive sounds, warped with heady club electronics, ‘Aguacero’ is presented as a reflection of Miami and the threat it faces from the “very things that help make it beautiful — the ocean, the heat, and the cranes in the sky.”

The EP is yet another gem in NAAFI’s crown, and a striking experimental club record in its own right, with a feature from Uruguayan producer Lila Tirando a Violeta and a remix from NAAFI member Zutzut.

‘Grillo’ is an EP highlight, with a hefty hard drum backbone and swerving bass underlying incendiary organic percussive trills. Check it out below.
