Scarlett O’Malley is releasing her latest two-tracker, ‘Cool Down Cowboy’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Gossip Heavy’ below.
The West London-based DJ and producer chases 2023 releases for Demi Riquisimo’s Semi Delicious and Kerri Chandler’s Kaoz Theory label with a double helping of grooving tech-house on her own Club Cowgirl imprint. Fluent in house, soul, and all the sweet sounds in between, her sophomore EP – out 26th January – finds the artist bringing her productions further in line with her DJ sets – with decade-hopping grooves and playful peak-time NRG.
Kicking off proceedings, ‘Gossip Heavy’ is a proper late-night hip-wiggler. Earning its name from the sizzling “drop it then” vocal sample, as well as the ‘sounds from around’ which percolate in its closing act, the track incorporates Latin-inspired percussion (bongos, cowbells) alongside a progressive, organ-led house hook.
On the flip, ‘Manifest’ takes inspiration from elsewhere on the clubland circuit, channelling US house and garage into an all-gas-no-breaks roller. Together the tunes make a formidable pairing – as Scarlett gears up for another year of stratospheric grooves both in and out of the booth. Yeehaw!
The EP finds a home on the DJ, broadcaster and producer’s Club Cowgirl label, which she christened last June with her debut EP, ‘Scorpio Rodeo’. Since then, the imprint has grown into an inclusive platform incorporating Scarlett’s Rinse FM show of the same name, as well as her Club Cowgirl chats series, featuring panel talks aimed at opening up wider conversations around the music and audio industries through a working class lens.
‘Cool Down Cowboy’ is out Friday (26th January). Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Gossip Heavy’ below.
