Tham rocked Awakening Upclose this past weekend.
Awakenings Upclose is an intimate, dance-floor-orientated festival that aims to create the perfect rave conditions. In intimate settings that dismantle traditional barriers, it’s time to meet eye to eye on the dance floor.
Berlin’s Tham made his debut center-stage appearance this past weekend alongside techno heavyweights SNTS, I Hate Models, and 99999999.
For Tham, it’s the culmination of many years of hard work within Berlin’s underground techno scene. But he’s not been confined to Berlin alone; his live schedule has taken him worldwide. Many fans of Tham will know him for his boundary-pushing live sets and hard techno style. His track ‘Jane Fonda’ has racked up 500k streams on Spotify alone.
Tham is a resident and face of underground public favorites like SYNOID, Revier Südost, and Lebendig. In just a few years, the young artist has proven that he’s one to stay, watch, and listen to. Growing up on the dance floors of Berlin—figuratively speaking—Tham’s artistic vision hails from and is always directed back to the German capital.
His interpretation of techno is to set people in motion. Pounding bass drums, complex grooves, and aggressive synth lines lash through the crowd with hypnotic effect. Tham provides this: music ex machina, coming out of nowhere, binding his audience’s eyes, ears, and bodies to the floor, in the present but echoing in their minds long after they’ve left the club.
Awakenings Festival is the biggest techno festival in the world, and it is held annually in the Netherlands. Celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, top-tier techno (and house) DJ lineups, and elaborate stage designs, it has attracted techno fans from afar since 1997.
