Toronto’s Stranjah will release a new EP on Anna Morgan and Bell Curve’s Worst Behavior Recs this month.
Having appeared on its recent compilation – an indispensable collection of hybridised rave music – Stranjah’s solo debut on Worst Behavior is testament to the bass-focussed producer’s versatility, and another gem in the label's catalogue.
The six-track ‘Monkfruit’ EP features MC collaborations with Baltimore’s TT The Artist and Swing Ting and Lenznman's at The North Quarter resident Fox, along with remixes from OAKK and DJ Madd. It finds Stranjah pulling from a range of styles, from d&b and footwork to dancehall and hip hop, all with a lucid polish and a taste for heavy bass-weight.
The EP’s title track starts with a dreamy, off-kilter half-time beat, before accelerating into a skittering d&b/footwork fusion, with a swerving bass groove and frosty atmosphere. Check it out below.
‘Monkfruit’ is out on 20th October. Pre-order it here.
